hot bread! hot bread!

if like me you stalk the baking blogs waiting to pounce on hapless delectable goodies–cakes, cookies, breads, mine mine mine!–then you’ve heard of this no-knead bread from Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery in New York City.
tiptup baked it, as did breadbasketcase , and i’m just your basic generic easy pushover.….so the detailed instructions here (plus video if you sign up for a free subscription) were so easy to follow; all you do need is plenty of patience (for the long slow rise). maybe a dab of supreme self-confidence? nerve? gall? too to overcome the self-doubt as you handle the sticky gooey dough. oh and also a heavy cast-iron pot with that tightly-fitting lid. definitely need that for the crunchy crust. oh and one last thing! a wedge of Brie cheese….

Enjoy

It looks great to me!
And yes, the book is totally worth it, bilhin mo na! :) So far everything I’ve made from there, and everything I’ve read about that’s been made from a recipe from there has received only high praise. :)

I’d try it again but the gloppy dough….

i’ve seen this no-knead bread circulating around and since you said it’s really easy then i’ll take a stab at it this weekend.
kisses to the youngest son. spring break na ba? ours is very early. last week.

oui oui Christine i’m sold….
to be added to the list of must-haves…along with Rose Levy Beranbaum’s the bread bible. she says holes are good on this no-knead bread as well!
March 23rd, 2007 at 11:49 pm
tiptup….Rose suggests latex gloves for handling, and a tad less water! i was mulling using half wheat and half ap flour, and so relieved this is her suggestion too!
she has a lot of tips over there realbakingwithrose.com

tita stel — the jalapeno bread that is Alton Brown’s all-time favorite is really, really out-of-this-world delicious. unfortunately, it’s only available at this hole-in-the-wall barbeque place here in the south. i took one to tita celiaK to London as my hand-carry — grabe ang bango sa plane i almost couldn’t resist eating it. she said it was so delicious. pag-punta ko sa Boston i’ll definitely bring you a loaf.

What a fabulous bread picture!!!
I have always wanted to try this no-knead bread! Not because I don’t like kneading (which I LOVE) but because it always seems to come out so wonderfully crusty and “hole-y” (a good thing!) :)
April 3rd, 2007 at 3:32 pm

I used to wake up REALLY early in the morning just so I could buy bread (right out of the oven) in my nearby neighbourhood bakery (just 5 minutes walk). Until I learned how to make bread, that is.
